Private Peaceful

War / drama
Year: 2012
Year in film: 1909-1916
Country: UK
Who in bedroom: Tommo ~9, Charlie ~14
Kind of beds: separate beds, 2 in 1
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Rating: 5/10 *
Rating: *****
Comment: The main plot is about 2 brothers, young Tommo 9 or 10 yo and young Charlie, played by Samuel Bottomley and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, but there’s at least one more, very young boy (maybe Frasier Huckle as Jimmy), maybe he’s also sharing this room. At least the grown-up Tommo and Charlie later sharing one bed.

Interesting movie and a very interesting scene of both boys in underwear in a lake (rating 8).

For the bedrooms, rating 4-5 only.

Armans Geheimnis

Family mystery series, 2+ seasons
Year: 2015-
Year in film: 2010s, Fantasy, 1900s ?
Country: Germany
Who in bedroom: teen boys, girls ~15
Kind of beds: separate+single
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no, partly TV recording
Rating: 3/10 ?
Rating: ***
Comment: Main characters are 5 teens (3 boys, 2 girls). Modern ranch and city setting obviously in the present. But also other (fantasy) worlds and/or time travel. Partly looking medieval. Some clothes look like 1900s. Pics from today’s episode s1e13. Pic 2 maybe a bit earlier (bed of younger girl). I haven’t found infos about the exact time setting (in the other world). Or the exact plot.

At least 3 or maybe all 5 beds on pic 1. Beds angled. 2 boys head to head.

Starring Gil Ofarim, Sinje Irslinger and Luise Befort.

I don’t like this series with older teens. Reminds me of “Fluch des Falken” which is similar (boring).  There are also some younger actors (relatives) including boys, like Lutz Simon Eilert and Gereon Schoel, but I only have seen some pics and no more bedrooms. Unknown episode. Needs to be rechecked.

2nd season to be aired on Easter.

Rating 3 for now only. Typical series, mainly for girls (horses).

The Night Before Christmas (1905)

Silent short film

Kind of beds:
separate beds

Rating: **
2 young boys and 2 young girls each sharing one metal bed. There’s also an even younger toddler girl. Either there’s a third bed which I haven’t seen or she sleeps with her parents.

Short silent film. 9 minutes. PD available on Aka Hanging Stockings on a Christmas Eve.

At the beginning the kids are shown in the living room, the boys wearing white sailor collars. But mainly in the background and the image quality is quite poor.

First movie about this 1823 poem. But maybe set in the presence (1900s). Some sources say movie releases in 1908. IMDb says 1905 (but also says animation movie).

At least another movie with kids (including girls) sharing beds and even 5 in a room. Quite funny also a pillow fight, but the kids are much too young. Interesting historic bedroom and beds though.

Rating 2.

The Wild Country (1970)

Rating: ******
Brothers Ron aka Ronny Howard (Virgil, on right) and his younger brother Clint sharing this cabin. Beds angled at 90 degrees (heads/pillows).

Quite interesting ranch movie / western showing famous brothers in real life. Also riding scenes.

I haven’t seen this movie for a long time and have to recheck it and hope for a soon broadcasting.

Ron is quite old and tall; Clint very young and small. Some interesting clothes but probably no jeans or bib overalls.

I even have one of the novels by Ralph Moody (including pictures showing a boy in bib overalls, but this is part 2 and most likely not in the movie.)

For the book entry (“The Home Ranch”) see my overalls blog (tagged book), for more infos about the clothes see my western blog, rating 4.

Bedroom rating 6-7 for now.

Two Weeks with Love

Musical comedy film  starring Jane Powell
Year: 1950
Year in film: 1900s
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: Ricky ~8, McCormick 13, man
Kind of beds: same bed
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, TV recording
Rating: 5/10
Rating: *****
Comment: Gary Gray (McCormick, on left), Tommy Rettig and a man in the same 19th century steel bed. Both wearing female nightshirts. Both arms slapping in the face of the man. Also both shown in bib overalls (see my other blog, rating 4), bathing costumes, festive grey suits (longer collar flap, Rettig only) and other costumes. Soon also on my sailor suit blog.

There is also a scene where the are both in overalls on a bed (probably that of their parents). Also girls / and or women in one bed, similar scene.

Typical MGM musical film.

For more infos see my other blog.

Rating 4-5 for these bedroom scenes. Rather few bedroom scenes and few (good) scenes of the boys. Best maybe the bathing costumes.

Drama series, 32 ep in 3 seasons
Year: 1989-1992
Year in film: 1897-1954
Country: Germany, Austria
Who in bedroom: Maxi ~11, Kurti ?
Kind of beds: single beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, partly TV recording
Rating: 8/10
Rating: ********
Comment: I think 2 brothers in this bedroom. White blue Bavarian sheets. 1st pic (right bed) is called Maxi. The other boy might be Ulrich Derse as Kurti.

1991 episode s2e7 “Vorsehungen”, set in 1939.

For more infos see my sailor suit and Lederhosen blog (both are shown, rating 9 for now for Lederhosen).

Series is currently running (on Sundays) but I missed the first episodes. So I will update this later. There are also other actors, not sure if bedrooms of girls and other beds like bunk beds or more kids in one room? Filmed in Munich ad Bavaria.

Bedroom scene rating 8 for now.

Update one other boy (alone in around 1934), rating 5.

Krambambuli (1998)

Year: 1998
Year in film: 1900s
Country: Austria, Germany
Who in bedroom: 2 boys + 1 girl ~8
Kind of beds: bunk bed
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, TV recording
Rating: 4/10
Rating: ****
Comment: 2 young boys in the bottom bunk and 1 young girl in the upper bunk of this 1900s wooden bunk bed behind a curtain, so it’s not a real bedroom.

This remake of the 1940 movie had been aired some days ago. Quite interesting and my first entry with more than 2 in one bunk bed. Sadly no or no notable Lederhosen or sailor suit scenes.

I also have to check the first b&w movie. Novel by Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. Diretd by Xaver Schwarzenberger (“Otto – Der Film”, Margarethe Steiff).

Starring Tobias Moretti, Gabriel Barylli and Christine Neubauer.

For bedroom scenes rating 4. Movie/plot is a bit better. Krambambuli is the name of a dog.

Die Gerechten von Kummerow

gerechtenvonkummerow gerechtenvonkummerow2

Family film, remake
Year: 1982
Year in film: ~1900s
Country: East Germany
Who in bedroom: boys ~12
Kind of beds: single beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no, partly TV recording
Rating: 7/10
Rating: *******
Comment: I think different locations. First pic: The sister (I think) tearing away the blankets of her brother’s bed. He is not wearing anything, so he turns to his stomach.

Very good film, sequel or remake to “Die Heiden von Kummerow und ihre lustigen Streiche” (1967), see also my sailor suit blog, rating 3 (for not real sailor suits). Die Heiden von Kummerow is much more often rebroadcasted. Both based on the famous novels by Ehm Welk.

I have a partly VHS recording but I often wasn’t sure about the title and counfound it with “Abenteuer in Bamsdorf” (this blog, rating 7), although the boy is younger there. In both DEFA films wooden beds and brother-sister relationship.

It’s hard to tell which movie is better. For bedrooms I prefer US films and brother-brother plots. For clothing I prefer sailor suits, Lederhosen and bib overalls instead of these brown pants.

But handsome actor and some interesting scenes. I hope for a soon TV broadcasting, so I don’t have to buy it. I have to check it again completely. Probably also something for my sailor suit blog. Even spanking scenes (without any clothes).

So rating 7-8 (for bedroom scenes), rating 6 for the movie.

Bill Mumy and a raccoon. Disney film after book from Sterling North
Year: 1969
Year in film: 1900s
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: Sterling ~14. Girl
Kind of beds: single bed
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, DVD
Rating: 4/10 *
Rating: ****
Comment: Bill Mumy (and his raccoon) in this bedroom. And his older sister Theo (Pamela Toll) in a different room south of his.

Very good and funny family movie, good acting and some good scenes of Bill Mumy (also on my overalls blog, rating 6, sadly his overalls just have simple suspenders on the back).

I only noticed this short and dark bedroom scenes. His sister also appeared much later and few scenes. And just to scream and woken up by the raccoon.

For more infos see my other blog. Interesting bedrooms and other props of the 1900s.

Rating 4 for the bedrooms but more for the movie. I even own the novle (see bib blog, book #18).

Emil i Lönneberga

Family series/movies
Year: 1971
Year in film: ~1900s
Country: Sweden, Germany
Who in bedroom: Emil ~9. Sister, others
Kind of beds: single beds

I own: yes, partly TV recording
Rating: 3/10

Comment: Different very interesting wooden beds and different bed constellations and also other locations.

Emil (Jan Ohlsson, Michel in Germany) sleeping in the bed of pic 2, I’m not sure, but I think in a room for himself. Both parents sleeping together in the big green bed (pic 1) in the living room (and or kitchen). The bed can be closed and they sit on it working during daytime. In the middle of the room is a separate regular bed for Emil’s 6 yo sister Ida (Lena Wisborg). On the left wall is a bed similar or the same of pic 3 for 37 yo maid Lina. One different location with at least 2 interesting, self made bunk beds. Alfred usually sleeps at another different house but also in the same room as Lina in film 2.

All pics are from the movie “Michel in der Suppenschüssel” which I think are parts of episodes 1-4 or 1-5. I also have seen the 1972 second film “Nya hyss av Emil i Lönneberga” (Michel muss mehr Männchen machen). No better pics, but also showing the 3rd bed in the 1st pic. In there sleeping Lina together with Krösa-Maja.

Looks like a big 2 story house and I wonder why they are all sleeping together (except Emil). I think there is a wall but no doors or the doors are open. The bed of the little sister may be moved during daytime.

I have seen the 3rd movie “Emil och griseknoen”, but don’t remember the bedroom scenes. Also on my sailor suit blog, rating 6 (different young boys in sailor suit, not Emil).

I somehow don’t like this series and never did. There are lots of other series and movies. Though interesting beds/bedrooms.

Rating 3.
