Rating: ********
Comment: Jesper Salén (main character Roland, on the right) and his older brother sharing one bed in 1920s Stockholm.

Very interesting coming-of-age movie. I could I miss this? I have still most parts on a VHS. Maybe because I mainly remembered other scenes? Many good and even funny scenes. And the 3rd movie with a tongue at frozen steel.

Of course lots of historical clothes, but I only notice a woman in a sailor dress. Boxing scenes but I think not shiny shorts.

Handsome actors. Very good movie. English titles: The Slingshot, Innocent Life.

So rating 8-9.

Le voleur d’enfants (1991)

Drama starring Marcello Mastroianni
Year in film:
F, I, Spain
Who in bedroom:
boys ~6-10 yo
–Kind of beds:
separate beds, bunk beds, 2in1
Available on DVD:
I own:
Rating: *****
Several young, orphaned boys in at least 3 separate rooms which are next to each other. First some different single beds, at least 3 or 4 beds including wooden and metal ones (pic 1) then one different room to the left at least 2 or more bunk beds. Also 2 boys sharing one bed.

Interesting movie, first on my sailor suit blog (few good scenes and mainly one very young boy, rating 4). Also other scenes of interest (bathtub scene of 2 boys, 1 walking around without clothes etc). Good plot, novel by Jules Supervielle. English title: The Children Thief.

Not bad but the boys are quite young and most bedroom scenes dark lit.

So rating 5 only.

Mad Ship

Drama starring Gil Bellows
–Year in film:
Who in bedroom:
Petter 10, Liv ~6?
Kind of beds:
Available on DVD:
I own:
Rating: ****
Gage Munroe and his younger film sister (Lane Styles)  sharing this 1920s farm bedroom. Looks like bunk beds or high sleeps due to the camera position but are ordinary single beds. White metal beds, at least that of the boy. Also nice pajamas. And he also wears bibs overalls.

Entry on my overalls blog was in January (rating 4 as well). I almost forgot this one as I have 2 folders on my HD.

Quite interesting movie (I have very few 1920s and even non-US and entries with brother and sister sharing a room).

Handsome boy actor but the girl is very young. And I remember very few good bedroom scenes. Scene pictured at 1h01.

Rating 4.

When the Wind Blows (1930)

Our Gang / Little Rascals short film
Year: 1930
Year in film: ~1930
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: boy ~8 ?
Kind of beds: single bed
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Rating: 3 ?
Rating: ***
Comment: At least one young boy in this bedroom.

I found it by coincidence on YouTube, probably a recommendation of my previous entry with a similar title.

I haven’t checked the complete movie (20 minutes). I also have to check more of the Little Rascals. I don’t remember bedroom scenes there.

Typical bedroom of early b&w and silent films. See my other entries.

Obviously no siblings in this room. Nothing special. Maybe the other and colorized movies are better. Starring Jackie Cooper.

So rating 3 for now.

Update: Some good scenes (2 and 3 boys in 1 bed) in “Canned Fishing” and “Shrimps For a Day” including an orphanage. Rating 6.

Drama series, 32 ep in 3 seasons
Year: 1989-1992
Year in film: 1897-1954
Country: Germany, Austria
Who in bedroom: Maxi ~11, Kurti ?
Kind of beds: single beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, partly TV recording
Rating: 8/10
Rating: ********
Comment: I think 2 brothers in this bedroom. White blue Bavarian sheets. 1st pic (right bed) is called Maxi. The other boy might be Ulrich Derse as Kurti.

1991 episode s2e7 “Vorsehungen”, set in 1939.

For more infos see my sailor suit and Lederhosen blog (both are shown, rating 9 for now for Lederhosen).

Series is currently running (on Sundays) but I missed the first episodes. So I will update this later. There are also other actors, not sure if bedrooms of girls and other beds like bunk beds or more kids in one room? Filmed in Munich ad Bavaria.

Bedroom scene rating 8 for now.

Update one other boy (alone in around 1934), rating 5.

Mer om oss barn i Bullerbyn

meromossbarnibullerbyn  meromossbarnibullerbyn3

Family series, film. Astrid Lindgren
Year: 1987
Year in film: 1928
Country: Sweden
Who in bedroom: Lasse, Bosse ~11, Lisa, others
Kind of beds: single beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, TV recording
Rating: 4 /10
Rating: ****
Comment: Lisa’s bedroom on pic 1 and she wakes up her brothers Lasse (right bed on pic 3) and Bosse. Olle sleeps at the neighboring house. Also all 3 girls and 3 boys sleeping on the floor at her aunt. I first thought that there are 3 brothers and 3 sisters. I still don’t understand it and thought that there are all 3 boys in the same room in the 60s series. See also that entry with similar scenes (on the floor)

Quite interesting scenes also at school and sailor suit scenes (see my other blog, rating 4) but I think I prefer the original 60s series.

I wouldn’t thought that this is set in the late 1920s as it looks all very modern. The bedrooms are quite large with a table and chairs in it. They can’t be poor and the houses look quite small.

English title “More About the Children of Noisy Village” series aka “Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn (1987)”

Rating 4.

Belles on Their Toes

US film about huge family
Year: 1952
Year in film: 1926 ?
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: 6 boys. 5 girls
Kind of beds: single beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Rating: 4/10 ?
Rating: ****
Comment: Sequel to “Cheaper by the Dozen”, but showing 11 kids “only” as one girl died. So I think 6 boys, 5 girls. Typical age range and now 2 years older. I don’t remember where they are sleeping. Probably separate rooms for boys and girls and parents. Sorry, I couldn’t find any better pics for now. Looks like the girl’s room.

Interesting movie and plot (autobiographical novel by Frank B. Gilbreth Jr). Also on my sailor suit blog, rating 7. Intersting clothes including bathing costumes.

Originally I thought that this movie is set in the 1940s like the novel but it’s obviously in the 1920s, the first movie in 1924, so must be 1926.

I don’t assume interesting bedroom scenes. But I have to check this again later.

So rating 4 for now only. Though interesting due to the amount of kids. All other entries with more kids are dormitories, orphanges or camp movies. However there are documentaries of huge families. 5 girls are also in Die Trapp-Familie and Sound of Music (see there), but 6 sons are very rare and all in one room.

Kartoffeln mit Stippe

German TV film in 3 parts
Year: 1990
Year in film: 1920s
Country: Germany
Who in bedroom: Billy ~13
Kind of beds: Single bed
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, DVD
Rating: 5 /10 *
Rating: *****
Comment: Benjamin Zobrys (pictured) in front of his bed just to jump in it landing on ice skates. Also on my sailor suit blog (rating 10, boy+girl). Girls /sister and relative have separate rooms of their own.

I own the DVD box but don’t watch it often. At least not the last DVD. I only remember this short bedroom scene. Very handsome child actor.

Also starring Pamela Großer (as sister and main character Ilse), Simon Jacombs (“Spreepiraten”) and some famous adults like Hans Clarin, Jutta Speidel, Ulrike Bliefert, Klausjürgen Wussow and Wilfried Loll (“Schloss Einstein”).

Very good mini-series set in Eastern Germany around Berlin in the 1920s. Btw my first 1920s entry yet. For more infos see my sailor suit blog.

For this bedrooms scene, rating  4-5 only.

Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn (1960)

allavibarnibullerbyn allavibarnibullerbyn3

Family series, 13 ep+ 2 films. Astrid Lindgren
Year: 1960-1961
Year in film: 1928
Country: Sweden
Who in bedroom: Olle, Lasse Bosse + girls
Kind of beds: single beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, partly TV recording
Rating: 8 /10
Rating: ********
Comment: Brothers Olle (left bed) and Lasse (right bed) and Bosse sharing one room. Bosse sleeps apart I think the bed is at horizontal position on south of them but probably in the same room. 1st pic fom ep. 5 “Vi sköter Olles lilla syster”. 2nd pic showing a different wooden bed in ep. 7 ” Lasse trillar i en vak” I think this is Bosse (on right). Pic 3 below showing all 8 kids sleeping on the ground in one room (ep. 6 “Kalas hos moster Jenny”.)

I don’t remember all episodes but they also sleeps at a hay loft (or is this only at the 1987 series?) I also remember a pillow fight but haven’t found this ep. yet (but looks similar to the first pic). Maybe I confound this with a similar Lindgren series (“Vi på Saltkråkan” or one of it’s sequels).

Good family series, novels Astrid Lindgren. There is also a 1986 film and a 1987 series (director Lasse Hallström) which I also have to check completely and aren’t bad either. There is a mistake at IMDb. Alla vi barn i Bulleryn isn’t just a 90 minutes movie. Same problem as other Lindgren series like Emil i Lönneberga. There are some shorter film versions as well. A similar series is “Vi på Saltkråkan” (rating 1 on my overalls blog).

Rating 7-8 although the boys are quite young. Director Olle Hellbom. Aka “The Children of Bullerbyn Village” “The Children of Noisy Village”.

Update: The 1987 movie/series “Mer om oss barn i Bullerbyn” coming soon (also on my sailor suit blog). Similar scenes like all together sleeping on the floor. Set in 1928 and 1928 (not in the 1940s)
