Germany, Austria
Who in bedroom:

Kind of beds:
separate beds

I own:
yes, TV recording
5/10 *
Nico Ramon Kleemann ~12 yo as 8 or 9 yo main character Hans (younger) and his film sister, Trude (real name Ruth), one year older (Charlotte Lorenzen ~12 yo) sharing this bedroom. There’s a carpet as curtain hanging between the beds as room divider.

Filmed 2015 in Vienna. Set in 1931. The 2nd half is set in ~1939 with different actors. Few good (bedroom) scenes there.

Also on my sailor suit and pigtails blog.

Very interesting movie and bedroom. Some handsome actors.

For the bedroom rating ~5-6. Movie rating ~6-7.

Update: Les allumettes suédoises

I have rechecked the complete series (rating 8).

Next to the great scene of Olivier and his Jewish friend David sharing one bed, there are also dorm scenes in ep 1 and ep 3 (ep 3 pictured). At least 12, probably some more beds in the dorm. Episode 1 has only or mainly dark scenes.

Also now on my bib overalls blog (rating 2, in fact an old man only but Olivier and a woman in blue aprons). Also soon on my pigtails blog.

German Wikipedia says 12 yo Olivier in 1932, French Wikipedia says 10 yo in 1930. Maybe in the novel only? Actor is 14 and/or 15.

Great series, main entry

Update: Islands in the Stream (1977)

There’s also another location, with probably 3 beds for the three brothers, a bit later, in the middle of the movie. The 3rd bed of the older brother (also aligned horizontally as well) is on the opposite, right wall. 2 desks next each other at the north east, left to the door. Especially near the end of the movie, there are also some scenes on the boat and the bunks there, I think a 2 story bunk bed.

First I thought that the scene pictured would be a dorm and with 4 or 6 beds as the room looks quite large.

The other scene with the pillow fight earlier is much better, though. Now also on my shiny shorts blog (rating 4).

Main entry, still rating 7 at

Islands in the Stream (1977)

Drama. Story Ernest Hemingway
Year: 1977
Year in film: 1930s, 1940
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: Tom ~20, David 14, Andrew 11
Kind of beds: separate beds
Available on DVD: yes

Rating: 7/10 ?
Rating: *******
Comment: There are 3 brothers, Tom (Hart Bochner, shirtless), David (14 or 15 yo Michael-James Wixted) and Andrew (Brad Savage, “Salem’s Lot”, “The Apple Dumpling Gang”), the younger boys in pajamas. They are sharing this room / cabin, (maybe on a ship but I don’t think so), more likely at a primitive beach house. Sorry, I don’t remember.

Nice pillow fight. Set in 1940 and/ or a bit earlier. Also at least David and Tom shirtless in swim shorts, including sitting and underwater scenes. (Shiny shorts blog, rating 4)

1970 novel by Hemingway. Oscar nominated.

Interesting scenes but movie needs to be fully rechecked.

Rating 7-8 for now.

Update: Also on a boat and another location. The final part is unfortunatly missing on YouTube. But I doubt even better scenes there.

Die rote Zora und ihre Bande

Adventure mini series, 13 ep
Year: 1979
Year in film: 1930s
Country: YU, D, CH
Who in bedroom: Branko 12, other
Kind of beds: same bed
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Rating: 9/10
Rating: *********
Comment: 2 orphaned boys sharing one bed. I think it’s 12 yo Branko (Nedelijko Vukasovic) in the bed on the right. 1930s setting. Is this in the castle? Looks more like cave. Pic from ep. 11. I haven’t noticed other bedrooms.

Very interesting series, but mainly for Branco (also shirtless in black shorts, shiny shorts blog rating 6). And also on my sailor suit blog (historical clothes, rating 5).

I only have checked this series at high speed.

Rating 9 for now. The 2008 remake is very poor (but needs rechecking for bedrooms). I only remember the prison scene at the beginning.

For more infos and pics see my other blogs.

The Waltons – Season 6

There are 2 British orphans, boy and girl visiting the Waltons around Christmas (1939 ?), sharing one bed. Disc 4 at 1h13. I think it’s a double episode s6e1?

Probably the first episode of boy and girl sharing a bed. But the boy is very young and first never talks. Probably the room and bed of John-Boy. See main entry for other pics of this room.

Rating 4-5 for this.

Main entry rating 8 with up to 4 boys (usually 3 brothers) in one room and 3 sisters in another.

Update: Our Gang

Like on all my other blogs, I make an update of this great Classic series aka Little Rascals. Please note, that I don’ know/don’t remember all movies. All or most movies were also colorized. There are some few siblings and twin characters (boys), but probably not shown here as most gang members are friends. Nice night shirts.

Pic 1 is from the 1938 movie “Canned Fishing”. Spanky is in Alfalfa’s bed but he sleeps in a different bed (in the same room) earlier. Wooden beds.

Pics 2+3 are from the 1934 movie “Shrimps For a Day”. There is a larger room in an orphanage with several beds, maybe around 8? But also 3 boys sharing one bed. Metal beds.

I previously just had “When the Wind Blows” rating 3.

I don’t like the orphanage and prefer the beds at home. I have to check more episodes. Maybe there are bunk beds as well? Or probably a foldaway bed?

Rating 6 for these scenes.

Zachary Bennett (Sullivan) and film brother Greg Spottiswood sharing one bed. Also at least one other location at camp with at least one, probably 2 or more bunk beds in at least one cabin. Also a tent scene (see my overalls blog).

How could I miss this? I even own the DVD for years. But I rarely watch it.

Very interesting 1930s movie also showing Zachary Bennett in underwear (short buttoned union suit), there are more, even better scenes also walking front+rear. But this blog is just about bedrooms.

I’m currently very busy and will recheck the movie more carefully, later.

For now rating even 7 for bedroom scenes. Rating 5 on my overalls blog, rating 3 on my sailor suit blog).

Update: I’ve noticed one bunk bed and 2 separate beds in the counselor’s cabin. Adding tag 4 or more in one room.

Merlusse (1938)

Drama. Marcel Pagnol
Year in film:
Who in bedroom:
boys ~8-16 ?
–Kind of beds:
dorm, separate beds
Available on DVD:

Rating: ***
Some orphaned boys in a large, roomy dorm at a boarding school with metal beds.

Should not show Pagnol’s childhood memories, and set a bit later around 1925,  but filmed at his school in 1935 although it looks older.

I like Pagnol movies but there are much better ones (Check out my sailor suit blog).

Rating 3-4 for this one.

Christmas Snows, Christmas Winds

Two brothers sharing this 1930s bedroom on a farm.

Few good scenes, some in the dark, it’s a short film anyway.

More infos on my overalls blog (rating 3).

I like this room and setting. So rating 7.
