A Christmas Story (1983)

christmasstory-bed

Famous family Christmas movie
Year: 1983
Year in film: 1940s
Country: USA, Canada
Who in bedroom: Randy 9, Ralphie ~12
Kind of beds: separate beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no, partly TV recording
Rating: 4/10 ?
Rating: ****
Comment: Ian Petrella (on left) and older brother played by 12 yo Peter Billingsley as 9 yo Ralphie sharing this 1940s bedroom. Unusual early setting for a Christmas movie.

I found this scene by coincidence but have to recheck this movie for daylight scenes.

Also on my bib overalls blog rating 3 (Randy) and my Western blog rating 4 (Ralphie).

For the bedroom rating 4-5 for now. Both boys are young and I don’t like Peter Billingsley. Interesting and funny movie though. Especially the tongue stuck at a frozen pole.

The Waltons – Season 7

waltonss7e1

In s7e1 (set around 1941), Mary Ellen and Erin sharing a tiny loft room and a foldayway bed at a guesthouse. Erin likes this room, but Mary Ellen doesn’t.

I prefer posting brothers bedrooms, but there are very few foldaway beds.

The Waltons also have some other and better scenes at their home, mainly 3 brothers in one room and 3 sisters (rating 8). Also some guest and other constellations.

At least 2 boys, not sure if brothers sharing a room. The right one looks a bit older. Beds horizontally aligned (heads next to each other). Pic from ep 6.

I don’t remember much more or better scenes. Probably my first Bulgarian series set in the 1940s.

Also on my sailor suit blog (rating 7).

Original title: Мъже без мустаци. English title: Men Without Moustache.

Rating 4-5 for now.

At least this dorm in 1944 or the early 1940s. Obviously mainly older teen boys or even men here. Probably also other rooms (of girls, young boys and toddlers) as well.

I don’t know the complete movie yet and found it by coincidence by searching for another movie. Starring Ivo Pietzcker (“Jack”, 2014 now with very short hair), also starring David Bennent.

I don’t like this dorm nor the 40s.

So rating 3 for now only for bedroom scenes. Also soon on my pigtails blog (rating ~4).

The pic showing 4 kids at least 2 boys (on the left), probably 4 boys in electric driven, horizontal foldaway beds.

The Kettle’s have 15 kids, but around 6 are grown-ups or older teens. I think some more are females (at least 4 young girls and 2 very young boys). Farm setting first (I didn’t noticed bedrooms of interest there), but here they had already moved to the house-of-the-future. There are 10 different movies (1947-1957). I still have to check most of them.

Quite interesting and my first entry of this kind of beds. One of the most famous boys is Teddy Infuhr. Some very good other scenes including jeans and overalls (partly in other movies, soon on my other blog).

Rating 5-6 for this modern bedroom. Funny and rare but I don’t like it that much.

Several boys in a dorm. Rows of white metal beds. I think in a tuberculosis sanitarium. Main character is 16 (also tied to the bed by a woman), other boys are younger.

Time for a dorm entry. English titles: “Years of Enlightment” and Year of the Awakening.

Sorry, I don’t remember much of this movie and checked it some time ago. Seems quite interesting (for these days) but the main character is already 16. So the awakening is nothing special nowadays.

Directed by Fernando Trueba starring Jorge Sanz.

Rating 4-5.

Un enfant dans la foule

Comment: I think main character Paul (13 yo in 1944, wearing tighty whiteys in bed) and an older guy sharing one narrow bed. Also scenes of a dorm (2 rows of metal beds), I don’t remember if it’s a boarding school. Also other scenes of interest like speedos.

I’m still searching for an unknown, probably Italian coming-of-age movie on my Lederhosen blog. So I rechecked this famous Cannes selection movie some time ago. Quite interesting (for it’s time) and I’ve seen it many years agon on TV. But there are a lot of similar and better movies.  English title: A Child in the Crowd.

Rating 5 only (for bedroom scenes), maybe a bit higher for the movie itself.

The Cider House Rules

Comment: Several boys at an orphange (including Kieran Culkin ~16 yo) in a rather small attic room. 2 rows of white metal beds. Also boys sharing a bed (maybe not at night). Also other locations, but probably not much of interest.

Quite good movie, plot and setting. I don’t like much dorms or the 1940s (maybe except some few movies, like French ones). I prefer wooden beds and bunk beds.

So rating 4-5 only. Kieran Culkin is maybe the best young actor in here.

Also women and men in bib overalls (rating 4). For more infos see that blog.

Boys in a dorm at a borading school and obviously a different location at home (no siblings ?). I don’t have many 1940s movies yet, especially not non-US movies.

I found this by coincidence. Also some other interesting scenes (speedos, no clothes, being washed by a woman).

I only have checked it at high speed and have to recheck it.

Rating 7-8 for now (for bedroom scenes) probably even higher for ther scenes.

4 small, probably iron bunk beds and one single bed on the left wall. (Maybe evn more bunk beds in other rooms?)

This famous, Oscar nominated anti-war movie had rently been aired. I think I missed some parts at the beginning and there might be regular bedrooms at their homes as well.

Famous teen actors like Fritz Wepper, Volker Lechtenbrink and also starring Günter Pfitzmann and Wolfgang Stumpf. Directed by Bernhard Wicki who also did some Heimatfims (Skandal um Dr. Vlimmen, Lederhosen blog rating 10).

I noticed only few and short good bedroom scenes here. However plot is quite interesting and some boys quite handsome. I also have to check the remake.

Rating 3-4 only. At least another interesting dorm movie with many bunk beds.
