Update: Stapelbed (Villa Achterwerk)

I finally found my tape and added this pic to it’s entry.

There were even much more kids in this bunk bed: 13. Many headshots. Kids are quite young ~8-10 yo.

Kids (boys and girls in pajamas and other nightwear) entering this rare bed, one at a time. Then they talk about one subject and their feelings. At the end there’s a pillow fight, also to the lower bunk, and a male voice says, that they should stop or he comes upstairs. Should be the dad?

VPRO production. Just in 1989.

Main entry, rating 5

Spuk von draußen

Family series, 7 ep
Year: 1987-1988
Year in film: 1980s
Country: East Germany
Who in bedroom: girls ~8 bunk bed, same +boy
Kind of beds: bunk bed, one
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Rating: 3/10
Rating: ***
Comment: 2 sisters usually in a wooden bunk bed. But also later together with a boy (brother) in his bed (I think located in the same room).

Looks like the bunk bed in the 1982 series Spuk im Hochhaus (2 brothers, rating 4). Usually, I like bunk beds, but I don’t like the young girls and prefer US movies.

Also on my bib overalls blog (girls, rating 4).

I don’t know the complete series, yet.

Rating 3-4 for now only. Still quite interesting. I have few entries about sisters and brother+sisters.

Update: Our Gang

Like on all my other blogs, I make an update of this great Classic series aka Little Rascals. Please note, that I don’ know/don’t remember all movies. All or most movies were also colorized. There are some few siblings and twin characters (boys), but probably not shown here as most gang members are friends. Nice night shirts.

Pic 1 is from the 1938 movie “Canned Fishing”. Spanky is in Alfalfa’s bed but he sleeps in a different bed (in the same room) earlier. Wooden beds.

Pics 2+3 are from the 1934 movie “Shrimps For a Day”. There is a larger room in an orphanage with several beds, maybe around 8? But also 3 boys sharing one bed. Metal beds.

I previously just had “When the Wind Blows” rating 3.

I don’t like the orphanage and prefer the beds at home. I have to check more episodes. Maybe there are bunk beds as well? Or probably a foldaway bed?

Rating 6 for these scenes.

Yours, Mine and Ours (1968)

Comedy film starring Henry Fonda
Year: 1968

Country: USA
Who in bedroom: boys. Girls
Kind of beds: bunk beds + separate
Available on DVD: yes

Rating: 7/10 ?

Comment: Like in the 2005 remake there are in total 18 kids (I think 7 brothers and 11 sisters, in the novel there are 20 kids (8 boys) in 8 rooms, 3 stories), but not in one room. About 3 of them look grown-up and about 4 are very young. Most famous kids are 11 yo Mitch Vogel (Bonanza) and 7 yo Eric Shea.

I don’t know the complete movie. According to a time chart there are at least 5 letter-coded bedrooms for half of the kids. So in total around 8 rooms.

Jean and Veronica sharing room A (maybe more here), Mary and Gerald room C, Tommy and Phillip room D, Germaine, Teresa and Joan room E. Rest 9 including the room with the 2 bunk beds. Rest 5. So probably 2 or 3 more rooms makes 7-8 rooms + 1 for the parents.

At least 2 wooden bunk beds in one room. Obviously 2 older girls and 2 older boys sharing the room with the bunk beds. I don’t know how the other rooms look like and if there are more bunk beds. In one scene 3 young kids (at least 2 girls) entering the parents’ bed.

I hope for a soon broadcasting but obviously there are no more than 4 or maybe 5 in one room. I can only say for sure of 3 girls sharing one room and also 2 boys. In the remake there are at least 4 brothers sharing a room.

Rating 7 for now.

La pietra di Marco Polo

Family series. 26 ep
Year: 1982-1983
Year in film: 1980s
Country: Italy
Who in bedroom: Adi 7, Malcom 11, Gianni 13, Marta 15?
Kind of beds: bunk bed + single
Available on DVD: yes

Rating: 6/10 ?

Comment: I think there are three brothers usually sharing a room (Adi, the youngest, played by 6-7 yo Nicola Di Pol is credited as girl on IMDb but is a boy). Some sources say that there are 5 siblings but I think Valerio is just a friend. An orange steel bunk bed and at least one separate bed in a large room. Pic 1 from ep 19, pic 2 from ep 23.

Also 4 in one double bed under one blanket, not sure if this is their sister, I do think so.

Unfortunately this series ist still not released officially on DVD, so I only have seen some few episodes available on YouTube. Maybe other bedroom constellations, locations (ship) or other actors later.

Very good series, my favourite is Malcolm (Sebastiano Marescalchi), also shirtless, see my overalls and Lederhosen blog (tag unknown). Adi also in beige overalls (rating 4).

Rating 6-7. Dorm entries coming next.

Comment: Different locations. And from 2 to many kids. In total 18 kids. But not in one room. I think at least 8 rooms. Some kids are older teens (pic 3). The main location is a 2 story house with a lighthouse in it. This is a remake from the 1968 movie, I have to check as well. How could I miss them? I thought, I already had this but it was “Der Typ, 13 Kinder & Ich”.

Pic 1 showing at least 2 light blue bunk beds. A boy as boy scout in the lower bunk. So I think only 4 boys here. (Wooden light blue bunk beds also in the 1968 movie).

Pic 2 only 2 boys at a different location at the beginning of the movie.

Pic 4 showing 5 younger kids (boys+girls) in one room. At least one wooden bunk bed and a separate one. Maybe not even all sleeping in that room. And I haven’t seen any more than 5 in a bedroom.

Unpictured: 2 older teen girls sharing a room (similar to pic 3). Also 2 younger boys sharing one bed (at different orientations like in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days).

Brief scenes of the most interesting room (pic 1). But still interesting film of a large family and different rooms.

One scene with 6 young kids + 2 parents in one bed.

Rating 5-6 only.

Update: I made an entry for the 1968 movie (rating 7)

10 young kids, I think boys and girls in one large bed in the song “There Were Ten In A Bed” (episode “Play Along Songs”). Also other bedroom scenes (mainly girls).

Quite funny, but this is just a joke (like the Waltons parodies). There are other more realistic bedrooms (also see my bib overalls blog (rating 8), especially post “Story 44: Kidsongs 2).

Highway to Heaven

Several mainly boys including orphans in very different bedrooms. Also bunk beds, dormitories and at least 2 and 3 boys sharing one bed. 111 episodes in 5 seasons.

One of my most favourite series or maybe the most favourite in the 80s. I still have some episodes on VHS and DVDr. Some handsome boys and also some wearing swim shorts. My most favourite episode is s2e1+2. Many episodes are very dramatic and tear jerking often about handicapped kids and other problems. Starring Michael Landau and Victor French. Also many, partly famous guest actors. My latest entry on my western blog (“A Gunfight”, 1971 starring Eric Douglas, rating 8 also starred here in s4e6 but older now).

First to the scenes pictured. Pic 1 from s1e3 showing 2 boys sharing one bed. I don’t remember their names. Later Barret Oliver in one bed at a hospital, probably on the right). Pic 2 from s2e1, my favourite episode about cancer and a summer camp, but here still at home. Pic 3 from s2e2 (same episode part 2 at camp) with many bunk beds. Pic 4 is also from s1e3.

Some other episodes I found (but I haven’t checked them all) s2e13 interesting bed, s4e13 with 4 boys (at least 3 sharing one bed, one boy is older, but dark lit scene).

I like the 80s and this is definitely worth buying on DVD (but this is often rebroadcasted, so I save the money).

I don’t remember much episodes showing perfect bedrooms and showing brothers. Or very interesting bunk beds.

So rating 6-7 for now. Series is much better though. I have to record and recheck all episodes the next airing.

Update: I bought this DVD set. 2 more wpisodes of interest (both season 3, rating 6)

Wide Awake (1998)

Drama starring Joseph Cross
Year: 1998
Year in film: 1990s ?
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: Joshua 10, Neena ~14
Kind of beds: single bed, double
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, DVD
Rating: 4/10
Rating: ****
Comment: Joshua Cross in the bedroom (pic 2), also he and his older sister (played by Julia Stiles) and their parents in one bed. Also a bed at a hospital.

Some good scenes at the Catholic school (locker room) but it’s not a boarding school. At least I don’t remember dorms there. Good Christian plot, rated PG.

Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, also starring Denis Leary, Dana Delany and Rosie O’Donnell.

For bedroom scenes rating 4-5, movie maybe 6-7. But I don’t like the young main character. I also remember few bedroom scenes.

Krambambuli (1998)

Year: 1998
Year in film: 1900s
Country: Austria, Germany
Who in bedroom: 2 boys + 1 girl ~8
Kind of beds: bunk bed
Available on DVD: yes
I own: yes, TV recording
Rating: 4/10
Rating: ****
Comment: 2 young boys in the bottom bunk and 1 young girl in the upper bunk of this 1900s wooden bunk bed behind a curtain, so it’s not a real bedroom.

This remake of the 1940 movie had been aired some days ago. Quite interesting and my first entry with more than 2 in one bunk bed. Sadly no or no notable Lederhosen or sailor suit scenes.

I also have to check the first b&w movie. Novel by Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. Diretd by Xaver Schwarzenberger (“Otto – Der Film”, Margarethe Steiff).

Starring Tobias Moretti, Gabriel Barylli and Christine Neubauer.

For bedroom scenes rating 4. Movie/plot is a bit better. Krambambuli is the name of a dog.
