Unknown 8: French or Italian movie, bedwetting Chinese orphan ? 1980s ?

Unknown family film
Year: 1980s ??
Year in film: 1980s ?
Country: French ?
Who in bedroom: boys ~8-11 ?
Kind of beds: separate beds, dorm
Available on DVD: yes ?
I own: yes, partly TV recording
Rating: 5/10
Rating: *****
Comment: I found these screenshots on my old PC. Aired probably in the early 90s, (movie could be older, maybe late 80s ?). There’s a dorm in an orphanage and a younger, maybe Chinese bedwetting boy. 2 other kids laying his hand in a bowl of water while he sleeps. I think, the boy later tried to escape while the others sleep. And I think is caught by a man. Could also be Spanish or similar.

Does anybody remembers the title?

Junges Licht

Year: 2016
Year in film: 1961
Country: Germany
Who in bedroom: Julian 12, Sophie ~5 ?
Kind of beds: separate beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Rating: 3/10 *
Rating: ***
Comment: From my Lederhosen blog (rating 9+). I almost forgot to post it here as well. Oscar Brose as 12 yo main character and probably his younger film sister, played by Magdalena Matz sharing this 1960s room.

Nothing special and few bedroom scenes. Wooden lower beds, angled at 90 degrees and ugly wallpapers.

For bedroom rating 3-4 only. Much higher for the movie itself.

For more infos see my other blog. Partly b&w. Also starring Peter Lohmeyer.

Est – Ouest

Country: Russia, others
Who in bedroom: Sasha ~17, Seryozha 7, woman
Kind of beds: separate beds

Comment: 17 or 18 yo Sergey Bodrov (1971-2002), I think 9 or 10 yo Ruben Tapiero as 7 yo Seryozha and maybe a young lady (behind a room-divider) sharing this room. There’s also 14 yo Erwan Baynaud (L’enfant sage) as 14 yo Seryoza but I haven’t noticed him in a bedroom. I understood, that the 17 yo boy is a neighbor and not the brother.

Quite interesting but typical movie and room of this time setting.

English title: East/West or East-West. 121 minutes.

Rating 3 only.

Vito e gli altri

Year: 1991
Year in film: 1990s
Country: Italy
Who in bedroom: boys ~11-16
Kind of beds: separate beds
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no, partly TV recording
Rating: 7/10

Comment: I think 4 beds with shirtless boys including Vito (Nando Triola), I think the youngest, around 11 or 12 yo. Others are much older. Street kids, maybe (partly) orphans and not brothers.

Great movie and some nice scenes, but I prefer bunk beds, brothers and US movies.

So for the bedrooms, rating 7-8 only.

I have seen it long time ago, but checked it completetly but at high speed some months ago for my unknown Italian movie (on my sailor suit blog). English title: Vito and the Others.

One Good Turn (1955)

Comedy film starring Norman Wisdom
Year: 1955
Year in film: 1954
Country: UK
Who in bedroom: Jimmy ~7, others
Kind of beds: dorm, separate beds
Available on DVD: yes

Rating: 4/10 ?
Rating: ****
Comment: Some, I think mainly younger boys at a small, private looking orphange. At least 10 beds in this room. I doubt that there are more rooms.

I only have checked it briefly and don’t remember all scenes.

Also a boy in a sailor suit, other blog, rating 4.

Rating 4-5 for now only.

Mystery in Dracula’s Castle

Disney-Land s19e11+12. Johnny Whitaker
Year: 1973
Year in film: 1970s ?
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: Leonard ~11, Alfie ~13
Kind of beds: separate beds
Available on DVD: no
I own: no
Rating: 5/10
Rating: *****
Comment: 13 yo Johnny Whitaker (“Tom Sawyer”, right bed) and 11 yo Scott C. Kolden (“Me as Chimp”) as brother Leonard sharing this bedrom. There’s also an older friend (Jean-Michel Michenaud) and a teen girl as baby sitter. Whitaker looks younger than 13.

Quite interesting, especially Scott, but I don’t like the 70s colors nor Johnny with his curly hair.

Probably a nice and funny detective movie and rather untypical Disney movie, but I only have checked it briefly.

Rating ~5 for now.

Update 2: Woof! (1989)

Family series, boy turns into dog. 9 seasons
Year: 1989-1997
Year in film: 1990s
Country: UK
Who in bedroom: Eric ~11, friend ?
Kind of beds: separate beds
Available on DVD: no
I own: no, partly TV recording
Rating: 7/10 ?
Rating: *******
Comment: I already have 2 pics, but from season 1 (1989). The new pics are from s8e8 featuring different actors. The main character is darkhaired Adam Roper as Rex (pictured on left) instead of Edward Fidoe as Eric and his older, blonde friend Monty Allan as Michael Tully (maybe the boy with the black suit and helmet ?). The other blonde, boy pictured is obviously someone else. There are now at least 2 beds, one looks like a guest bed. But the table looks similar. Maybe more locations shown?

Great series. Handsome actors. Unfortunatley still not on DVD.

Still rating 7.

Update: Islands in the Stream (1977)

There’s also another location, with probably 3 beds for the three brothers, a bit later, in the middle of the movie. The 3rd bed of the older brother (also aligned horizontally as well) is on the opposite, right wall. 2 desks next each other at the north east, left to the door. Especially near the end of the movie, there are also some scenes on the boat and the bunks there, I think a 2 story bunk bed.

First I thought that the scene pictured would be a dorm and with 4 or 6 beds as the room looks quite large.

The other scene with the pillow fight earlier is much better, though. Now also on my shiny shorts blog (rating 4).

Main entry, still rating 7 at

Islands in the Stream (1977)

Drama. Story Ernest Hemingway
Year: 1977
Year in film: 1930s, 1940
Country: USA
Who in bedroom: Tom ~20, David 14, Andrew 11
Kind of beds: separate beds
Available on DVD: yes

Rating: 7/10 ?
Rating: *******
Comment: There are 3 brothers, Tom (Hart Bochner, shirtless), David (14 or 15 yo Michael-James Wixted) and Andrew (Brad Savage, “Salem’s Lot”, “The Apple Dumpling Gang”), the younger boys in pajamas. They are sharing this room / cabin, (maybe on a ship but I don’t think so), more likely at a primitive beach house. Sorry, I don’t remember.

Nice pillow fight. Set in 1940 and/ or a bit earlier. Also at least David and Tom shirtless in swim shorts, including sitting and underwater scenes. (Shiny shorts blog, rating 4)

1970 novel by Hemingway. Oscar nominated.

Interesting scenes but movie needs to be fully rechecked.

Rating 7-8 for now.

Update: Also on a boat and another location. The final part is unfortunatly missing on YouTube. But I doubt even better scenes there.

Heimweh… dort wo die Blumen blüh’n

Heimatfilm, Rudolf Prack
Year: 1957
Year in film: 1950s
Country: Austria
Who in bedroom: boys ~9-11 ?
Kind of beds: separate, dorm
Available on DVD: VHS only

Rating: 3/10

Comment: Several choir boys in a large dorm with typical simple 1950s metal beds.

I think, according to the plot this should be the Vienna Boys Choir (Wiener Sängerknaben), but credited as Mozart Sängerknaben. Probably only dubbed.

Few good scenes and not even Lederhosen (nor sailor suits).

Also on my bib overalls blog (woman, rating 2).

Quite poor movie and not on DVD either.

For the “bedroom” rating 3-4 only.
